Xenon is classified as a rare atmospheric gas. It is nontoxic, tasteless, colorless, odorless and monatomic and chemically inert. It makes up approximately 0.09 ppm of the atmosphere. Xenon ionizes at lower voltages than other gases and emits brilliant, distinctive light while conducting electricity. Even though Xenon is nontoxic, it can still function as a simple asphyxiant by displacing the oxygen in the air and cannot be detected by color or odor.
